The PUMA® White Hunter knife is handmade in Solingen, Germany, and has long set the standard for the ultimate hunting knife. The PUMA White Hunter was developed in 1956 in conjunction with the East African Professional Hunter’s Association to be the leading knife for big game hunting.

The PUMA White Hunter’s featured stag handles – which are made from the shed antlers of Wild Stag – are formed via a meticulous manufacturing process and make the knife a truly unique, one-of-a-kind tool. First, each scale is boiled, stabilized, and dried over a period of weeks. Then, the handle is individually cut and hand fitted to your knife. Brass rivets are used to attach the scales to the knife. The rivet heads are filed and, finally, the handle is burnished to a precise size and shape for optimal fit and function.
The PUMA blade is German-grade 1.4116 stainless steel for sharpness retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. During formation of the initial steel bars, trace elements such as carbon, chromium and silicon are added to maintain the temper yet inhibit rust. Other trace elements, such as manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and molybdenum, are also added to give the blade better structural strength and consistency by aligning the molecules more evenly during cooling. After the initial steel bars are formed, the blade is hot-drop forged, wherein the steel bars are heated to 3150-4200 degrees Fahrenheit. Once heated, the blade is placed between two dies and mechanically forged under 2200 pounds of pressure to fit the shape of the dies. The hot drop forging process not only shapes the blade, but it also further improves the molecular structure of the steel. Once the PUMA blade is forged, it is tempered and hand finished in 22 separate steps by skilled craftsmen. Each step uses increasingly fine lubricants, oil coolants, and special polishing grease.

Bought Mine in 1959!!
On graduation from 8th Grade to HS, June 1959 in NJ, my family's adults pooled and gave me a cash gift. I bought myself a White Hunter - still have it, well worn and worked in its original sheath - Unger Heating Iron personalized by me. One of the Originals - came in a dovetail corner wood gift box. Carried it on my leg as Fighter Pilot in VietNam + many camping trips before and after. Does chores around the house to this day. Don't even ask what I paid for it back then - when gas was at most 25c/gallon.

Great Knife!!!
I inherited this knife two years ago. Mine was made in 1968 and had been neglected by my benefactor and was covered in light rust but the blade edge was still in great shape. I worked at cleaning and sharpening it and the knife came right back to its original glory. Took it on a wilderness survival camp out this weekend and it performed perfectly. I was so impressed with the feel and quality of it that I finally researched the make and model of the knife which brought me to this website. I would recommend this knife to any hunter or knife addict that has to have one of the best knifes that is very functional.

Hunter
This is truley the greatest hunting knife made. Nice big handle gives you something to grip. Sharpens great and holds an edge. Never go on a hunt with out it and my Puma Hunters Pal. In the times we live in now i recently saw a disposable blade hunting knife! Thank You Puma for still making a real Knife!

My companion for 50 years
My mother gave me this knife with the wood handle scales for my 21st birthday when the price was 10% of today's price. The superb balance makes it possible to use it for anything from trail clearing to woodcarving. It holds its edge incredibly well. It can still cut meat with precision after spliting kindling for the campfire. In 50 years of hard use it has rarely needed sharpening.
